    The Captain and crew are happy to answer all your questions about the M/V Gansett, the Newport Harbor Tours and the other cruises offered. Special arrangements are often made for individuals, private parties, bus charters and school groups. Most of what you need to know about taking a Newport Harbor Tour aboard the Gansett is here, but we invite you to stop by the dock, come aboard, meet the Captain and crew and see this beautifully restored wooden vessel before your cruise or charter. This is the only tour boat in Newport Harbor that gives guests the feeling of being on a well-appointed private yacht.

  • On daily cruises: Children age 12 and under- $5 discount.
  • Seniors- $2 discount.
  • The daily tour schedule is subject to change due to weather, special events and private charters. Please call to verify the schedule for the Newport Harbor Tours daily. Note: During the Fall, late afternoon and evening cruise times change to adjust for earlier sunsets. Call to confirm exact departure times after that date.
  • Tickets are on sale directly at the boat at boarding time, on the Private Dock at the Inn on Long Wharf, 142 Long Wharf, and at the Newport Gateway Visitor's Center on America's Cup Avenue starting every day at 9 AM. You may buy tickets anytime throughout the day for morning, mid-day or sunset cruises.

  • The nearest parking areas (for a fee) are the lots at the Visitor's Center, a one-minute walk. There is limited parking (metered, 3 hour limit) along Long Wharf itself and on nearby Washington Street.There is no parking available at the Inn on Long Wharf.
  • The Gansett is docked right at the side of the Inn on Long Wharf, just steps away from the Marriott Hotel and the Visitors Center. The Gansett's dock, its wide ramp and small steps have been specially designed for easy, safe boarding.
  • The Gansett has three seating areas, and guests are free to move about the vessel during cruises. There are several seats in the bow; topside, there is a high fly-bridge deck which has open seating for 15 passengers; and the main deck is broad and shady under a canopy (which has roll-down sides). There are wide, comfortably cushioned seats and small cafe tables for enjoying your food and beverages.
  • New Gansett shirts and other gear are available for sale on board. Just ask the crew. Custom printing for guests available for private chaters and corporate events.
  • The Gansett has a clean and well-ventilated "head"(marine toilet), located in the cabin.
  • Gansett's guests will be most comfortable in casual attire with low-heeled and rubber-soled shoes. A light jacket or windbreaker is a good idea, along with your sunglasses,binoculars and camera. Although the main deck has a complete canopy for shade, be aware that on bright sunny days, UV rays are reflected off the water - apply adequate sunscreen before boarding.

  • The Gansett is ideal for bus charter groups - it is USCG appproved for 49 passengers, which is the capacity of most tour buses. Please call for group pricing and special itineraries that are tailored to your group's interests. The captain will reserve the Gansett guest speaker who is best suited for your charter groups' age and interests. Or, you may chose to bring your own guest speaker aboard - another view is always welcomed.
  • The Gansett is ideal for school and college study groups and field trips since the open deck plan creates an informal classroom. Email or call to ask about cruises formatted to complement approved curriculums for local history, natural science and cultural studies. Email or call to ask about student rates. (There is no charge for chaperones and teachers.)
  • The Captain of the Gansett confidently recommends the services of various local caterers - all of whom are award-winning vendors. If you would like to use your own food service or vendors, the Gansett is pleased to make special arrangements for light food and beverage service aboard. Please have your caterer call the Captain well before the date of your cruise so that we may prepare the galley and serving areas accordingly. Small cafe tables are provided.
  • The Gansett has a cash bar on board for regularly scheduled cruises, serving a selection of Narragansett beers and Barefoot red and white wines.
  • The Gansett is reserving private charters for weddings and bridal parties, now and for 2009 and 2010. The open deck plan lends itself to informal, intimate ceremonies and celebrations. Professional photographers are invited to charter the vessel for bridal party photography.
  • The Gansett and all crew members are pet-friendly. Dogs on leashes who are on their best behavior are provided with special blankets on the main deck only where they can stay by their owner's seat during the cruise. Please notify the crew at the time of your ticket purchase or when you are calling for a reservation that you are bringing a four-legged friend along with you.
  • Private Charters and Special Event Cruises planned according to your interests and timeframe. Small or large groups accommodated with light catering. The Gansett welcomes private parties that originate from Newport, Jamestown, Portsmouth, Wickford, East Greenwich and other Narragansett Bay and bay island harbors.
